The builder and designer R.S. Lipscomb constructed the Varsity Arms Apartments in 1928. Radio aerials were installed for each apartment allowing the occupants to operate a private set or listed to a master set provided by the management. Power washing machines, a mangle, and heated air clothes dryer were originally installed in the basement. This building was determined eligible for listing in the National Register. The Varsity Arms is a simple brick box apartment building that is quite intact.
 
Appearance
The Varsity Arms is a three-story brick box apartment building. The entrance is recessed and surrounded by a cast stone Gothic archway. Above the entrance, opening into the stairwell, are double multi-paned windows. On either side of the entrance are paired double-hung multi-paned windows flanked on either side by three part double-hung multi-paned windows. On the north and south elevations are single double-hung multi-paned windows of two sizes. The cornice is simple with an extremely plain pediment.
