Historic Name: Price-Rite Grocery Common Name: Carlin Salon & Day Spa
Style: Commercial Neighborhood: Morgan Junction
Built By: Year Built: 1905

Significance
This building, although somewhat altered, is significant for its early date (1905), making it one of the earliest existing mixed use buildings in West Seattle. The store on the first floor was a grocery store for several decades. In the 1930s it was a Price-Rite grocery. In the 1950s it was Ray & Al's Fine foods and Jack's Better Meats, and in the 1960s, Klatt's Quality Meats and Bernie's Grocery. There is now a large supermarket nearby, and this is a salon and day spa.

Appearance
This two-story rectangular mixed use building has a mansard roof with composition shingles. Cladding appears to be Hardiboard, or a similar product. A wide dark green belt course runs between the first and second floors. The original suspended canopy remains, and the storefront entry has its original configuration with newer steel-and-glass doors (probably installed when it was a grocery store. The transom is probably intact, but is covered. The second floor has two pairs of 1/1 double-hung vinyl windows in the original wide wood surrounds; these are flanked by three similar single windows. The north and south elevation have similar windows. Toward the rear of the south elevation is a gabled entry to the staircase leading to the second floor apartments. The rear (east) elevation has a projecting semi-enclosed porch on the second floor, with wood stairs.
