Significance |
|
This is a small but intact example of a brick-clad commercial building that served an important role in the community. These buildings were constructed along streetcar lines to meet the basic needs of neighbors, who could easily walk to the store. For many years, from at least the 1930s into the 1950s, this was the Hiawatha Pharmacy. It is currently an Italian restaurant.

Appearance |
This small brick-clad building appears to be highly intact. The only ornament is two brick belt courses, one above the transoms and another below the simple cornice; sine the building is now painted white, these do not show up very well. It has two storefronts, with their original configuration with recessed doorways, wood-and-glass doors and wood sash with intact transoms. There is a display window on the side (north) elevation as well, with a second very small window and a rear entry door. The four metal light fixtures that hang over the storefronts may also be original. |
