Significance
Architects Hancock and Lockman designed the Lewis Building in 1927. This building is an example of a typical brick-clad commercial block of the 1920s. Otis E. Hancock and Frederick V. Lockman had an architectural partnership in Seattle from 1925-1933. Hancock also worked with Arthur Loveless, B. Marcus Priteca, and Frank Fowler in Seattle. Lockman worked as an architect for the U.S. government during World War II.

Appearance
The Lewis Building is a two-story commercial structure consisting of four storefronts. Embedded square columns divide the storefronts and the upper story windows, which are rows of double-hung windows in combinations of four and six. The cornice is extremely simple, with the embedded square columns that extend slightly beyond the parapet. A rounded pediment is formed by two of the embedded columns that rise up at either side of the stairwell entrance to the second story. The building remains predominantly intact.
