Significance
The Carol and Roberta Apartments were designed by Eric C. Rising and constructed in 1929. The pair of buildings are symmetrical, with a courtyard garden in between. These apartments are significant as a pair of identical buildings constructed at the same time. The architect Eric C. Rising was born in Stockholm, Sweden and moved to the United States around 1900. He received his architectural degree from the Pratt Institute in New York City. While working in New York City, he helped to design the steel structure of Yankee Stadium. Rising moved to Seattle in 1920, where in 1923 he worked on the structural design of the Dexter Horton Building. Rising was the architect for many Seattle buildings, including the Mayflower Hotel and the Maxwell building. Eric C. Rising retired from the architectural firm Naramore Bain Brady & Johanson in 1979.
 
Appearance
The Carol and Roberta Apartments are two three-story apartment buildings that form a symmetrical pair. The entrances are recessed and are surrounded by Collegiate Gothic style cast stone decoration. Above each entrance, on the second and third floor are single paired windows. The entrances are flanked on one side by one pair of paired double-hung windows that form a three-story bay. On the other side are three pairs of double-hung windows that are topped by a simple cornice with a pediment.
