This one-story commercial building was originally constructed in 1927 for the Alaskan Copper Works, who used this building for the retail and wholesale distribution of copper products for approximately the next forty years. The Alaskan Copper Works were established in Seattle in 1912 and continue to fabricate and distribute products primarily for ship building, pulp/paper processing and food processing. Appearance
This one story building with a one-part façade along First Avenue South is located south of the Roebling Building. It is rectangular in plan and is constructed of reinforced concrete. Its First Avenue façade is distinguished by its prominent stepped-gable parapet. It also retains its original display windows, although the multi-pane transoms are no longer in evidence. Cladding is of concrete mainly, but with wood and plywood, as well. An open delivery truck bay at the south end of the façade has been enclosed and is now the location of a recessed entrance with curved glass block and double doors. This last alteration was made around 1950.
