Significance |
|
This house was constructed in 1901 as a single-family residence. It was converted to apartment in 1908. The architect and/or builder is unknown. Early ownership is unknown. Mrs. Emily M. Anderson, widow of Frank R. Anderson an inspector for the U.S. Engineering office, occupied the house from 1924 to 1938. Emily M. Anderson was a cook at the Green Gate restaurant in downtown Seattle. John H. Dickey, a real estate agent, purchased or managed the house, renting out furnished rooms, starting in 1939.
It is one of the oldest buildings in the Brooklyn area. It is an interesting variation of the four square form, with the balcony (now enclosed) above a full-width projecting porch.

Appearance |
This two-story hipped roof residential vernacular house is situated on the lot facing east. The house is clad in clapboard siding with some decorative diagonal wood siding below the two front first-story bay windows and on the second floor balconet with pyramidal roof. A front porch with a hipped roof runs the entire length of the front elevation; four columns support the porch. The front entrance is centered, flanked by the two bay windows. The balcony, which has since been enclosed, is directly above the front entrance and is flanked by two single double-hung windows. |
