Significance
In the opinion of the survey, this property appears to meet the criteria of the Seattle Landmarks Preservation Ordinance.
The S. Smith House was constructed about 1902. Stewart E. Smith acquired the property in late 1901 and apparently constructed the house in late 1901 or early 1902. By spring 1902 Stewart and his wife Ida M. took up residency for whoat would last for about three decades. While living in the house, Smith held various jobs working as a realtor, accountant, cashier, and insurance examiner for investment and insurance companies. By 1930, the Northwestern Mutual Fire insurance company appointed Stewart Smith as the corporate Treasurer. Although the Smiths left Seattle in 1934 they continued to own the house until World War II. During World War II, Ada and Lauralyn Benbow lived in the house. Ada was a widow and her daughter Lauralyn worked at Harborview Hospital. The residence appears to meet City of Seattle Landmark criteria due to the age of the structure (over 100 years old) and minimal alterations.

Appearance
The S. Smith house has a gable wall dormer with a wrap around porch with large porch posts. The small enclosures at each end of the porch may be alterations. Otherwise house is intact.
