(2002) This relatively simple American Foursquare style house relates to the house next door at 5252 16th Avenue E and the Shuey house at 5218 16th Avenue NE. William S. Bell was an assistant cashier for the H.O. Shuey & Company, and later became the secretary-treasurer of the H.O Shuey Company. By 1914, William S. Bell and his wife Jennie had moved to 4548 47th Avenue NE.
Later owners included Ida J. Sbedico, from 1924 to at least 1968. Gene Coriell has owned the house since the 1970s.
Based on field work conducted in October 2014, this historic property retains its relationship to the streetscape, historic building form and a sufficient amount of exterior historic building fabric (design features, cladding and/or window sash/openings) to contribute to the distinct character of the University Park neighborhood.

(2002) This American Foursquare style house has a gable ends on the east and west elevations and a two story front porch, reminiscent of the H.O. Shuey house at 5218 16th Avenue NE, and to a lesser degree the house to the north at 5260 16th Avenue NE. The second floor porch may have been open originally, although it has been closed in for a long time, and the windows match those elsewhere in the house. There is a decorative medallion on the gable end above the porch. There was a small balcony above the bay window on the south elevation, which has been removed. Some cladding has been changed below the second story windows on the porch.
Some minor alterations have been made to the rear (east) elevation; the one-story hipped roof section is possibly a later addition or an enclosed porch. The house has simple wood double-hung windows. A line of dentils below the roofline similar to the house at 5260 16th Avenue NE and 5252 16th Avenue NE has been removed. The house has wide overhanging eaves and has brackets below the eaves. There is no external chimney.
This property exhibits no substantive changes to the exterior since it was identified in the 2002 HRI project. |
