Significance
The Ives Building is a prominent terra cotta clad building on the intersection of NE 45th St and University Way NE, located West of the University State Bank Building. The jewelry business was opened by William Lindenberg in 1924 at 1314 NE 45th Street. In 1944, Anchor Jensen and Fred Nielsen acquired the store and operated it until 1958. Warren Porter purchased the store and kept the Jensen name. Under Porter's ownership, the business moved to it's current location at 4501 University Way NE in 1962. The Porter and Jensen Jewelers will be leaving the building in 2002 and will operate exclusively out of their University Village store.
 
Appearance
Constructed in 1923, this two-story, reinforced concrete building is located on the corner of NE 45th St and University Way NE. Its Classical Revival design features engaged columns and pilasters that line the south and east elevations on the second story. A decorative terra cotta frieze and simple cornice encircle the main elevations. The original second story windows have been replaced and the transom windows have been removed or covered with cladding. The storefront has also undergone extensive alteration.
