Significance |
|
Based on field work conducted in October 2014, this historic property retains its relationship to the streetscape, historic building form and a sufficient amount of exterior historic building fabric (design features, cladding and/or window sash/openings) to contribute to the distinct character of the University Park neighborhood. This is a particularly well-preserved historic property that appears to possess architectural and/or historic significance.
(2002) This is a distinctive Tudor Revival style house, built in 1914. It has unusual half-timbering details and groups of multi-paned casement windows. It has a steeply angled gable roof with a bay window on the south elevation. It is a relatively intact example of a fairly early Tudor Revival style house in the neighborhood north of the University of Washington campus.
It was the home of Samuel H. MacDonald, a manufacturers agent, and his wife Beryl, an accountant, from 1923-1944. Beryl remarried and remained in the house until at least 1948. It was the home of Hebert Belch, an accountant at Lowman & Hanford, from 1954-1975.

Appearance |
This property exhibits no substantive changes to the exterior appearance since it was identified in the 2002 HRI project.
(2002) This two-and-one-half story Tudor Revival style house is quite distinctive in its style. It has unusual half-timbering details, particularly on the gable ends and between the first and second floors on the south elevation. The house has groups of multi-paned wood casement windows. The windows appear to be original and storms have been added over the windows. The gable roof is steeply angled and has a side entry porch. There is an enclosed porch to the rear that may not be original. There is a large chimney, clad in stucco, on the east elevation and a second internal chimney. The house has flat-roofed dormers on the north and south sides of the roof. A large two-story bay is located on the south elevation, with an inset dormer that has a hipped roof.
There is a matching stucco and half-timbered garage on the alley. |
