Appearance

Constructed in 1949, this concrete block building is located midblock on the east side of First Avenue W, between W Republican and W Harrison streets. The site slops upward from west to east. The building is L-shaped with two-parts, a rectangular office building fronting First Avenue W and a 1-story attached garage which extends to the east of the office building at the northern end of its south elevation. The garage and associated parking lot is accessed from a curb cut on First Avenue W, to the south of the office building. Both portions of the building feature a flat roof with a parapet and stand on a poured concrete foundation. The office building is clad with Roman brick veneer on its main (west) and south elevations. The front door is centered on the west elevation and is wood with three square windows in a vertical column. A large fixed picture window is present to the south of the entrance. The remaining windows on the west elevation are metal, 1:1 sash, with a fixed lower sash and an awning upper sash. There is one, 1:1 wood sash window on the south elevation. A shallow wood canopy serves as the header for the door and windows and wraps around the building’s southwest corner. Plywood is present on the west elevation and extends up from the header to the parapet. A 1953 historic photograph with the King County Assessor property card indicates this plywood space housed signage. The garage doors are metal with strap hinges.

The building has moderate integrity and retains its original form and most of its original materials.
